Vadodara: 13 students, 2 teachers die after boat capsizes in lake
Vadodara: Tragedy struck in Gujarat’s Vadodara as a boat capsized in Harni Lake during a school picnic, resulting in the loss of at least 13 students and two teachers, according to Times of India.
The boat, carrying 27 children without life jackets, overturned in the afternoon. Seven students have been rescued by the fire brigade, while efforts are underway to locate the missing ones. Prime Minister Modi expressed grief and announced a Rs. 2 lakh ex-gratia from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the families of the deceased, with Rs. 50,000 for the injured.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel termed the incident “extremely heartbreaking,” providing updates on ongoing rescue operations. Gujarat Education Minister Kuber Dindor confirmed six children’s unfortunate demise and highlighted the collaborative efforts of NDRF, fire brigade, and other agencies in the rescue mission.
